Each year as August winds to a close, many wait for Starbucks to release their fall drinks. And of course, that includes the famous (or infamous?) Pumpkin Spice Latte. And 2023 is no different.
The fall 2023 Starbucks drinks launched on Thursday, August 24. This launch includes the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, as well as the Apple Brown Sugar Syrup, which is used now in several drinks.

In-café food and drinks
Starbucks launched its fall 2023 café drinks on Thursday, August 24. All pumpkin spice lovers can now rejoice!
Starbucks is featuring five drinks for its fall season. Three are focused on pumpkin spice, and two use the apple brown sugar syrup. Technically, neither of the two “new” drinks are new, as they are just variations of what has been available the past several years.
- Pumpkin Spice Sauce
- Pumpkin Cream Cold Foam (made with the sauce)
- Pumpkin Spice Topping
- Apple Brown Sugar Syrup
- Spiced Apple Drizzle
You can use any of these syrups or toppings to create your own drink. If you are looking for inspiration check out these five delicious off-menu fall drinks!
Pumpkin Spice Featured Drinks
- Pumpkin Spice Latte
- Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew
- Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Latte (New!)
As expected the PSL (Pumpkin Spice Latte) is returning in all its glory. You can order it hot or iced, or even as a Frappuccino.
Starbucks says of it, “The handcrafted beverage combines Starbucks Signature Espresso and steamed milk with the celebrated flavor combination of real pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spices.”

The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew is also a tasty and very popular returning drink.
This is the fifth year for this drink, and it’s “crafted with Starbucks Cold Brew sweetened with vanilla syrup, topped with pumpkin cream cold foam and a dusting of pumpkin spice.”
Ask to substitute pumpkin spice sauce instead of vanilla syrup to get double the pumpkin-ness in your drink!
I am sure the hit of this season will be the “new” Pumpkin Cream Chai Latte. I have “new” in quotes, because it was a drink you could already order, it just wasn’t officially on the menu. Starbucks even says it “was inspired by a popular customer and barista customization.”
Personally, pumpkin spice plus chai is one of my favorite combos. I even have a recipe to make a large batch of pumpkin spice chai at home! If you’ve never tried it, do it as soon as possible.
“We’re excited to celebrate the creativity of our baristas and customers by offering the Iced Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Latte on the official fall menu. The warm spice flavors of chai and pumpkin seamlessly blend together, creating a creamy and comforting iced beverage,” said Starbucks beverage developer Billy Altieri.
I’ve had this drink before and it is delicious. But, it does taste very sweet, so that may put you off. My six-year-old had a sip and said it’s the best thing he’s ever tasted.
The spices in chai and in pumpkin spice match so well, that you will completely forget that it seemed an odd pairing at first. It’s a nice fall blend and it’s great to have an option without any coffee.
The taste is sweet and smooth and the spices are not overwhelming but are flavorful.
If you want to make a hot version, instead of using the cold foam, ask for extra pumps of pumpkin sauce to be added to your chai latte.
If you are looking to make a similar drink at home, check out my recipe for a large-batch of pumpkin spice chai. You can keep it around for yourself for a few days, or serve it to guests.
Apple Crisp Featured Drinks
- Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso
- Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato
The “new” Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso also deserves the “new” in quotes because it is simply using the Apple Brown Sugar Syrup that has been offered in previous years, officially in a different drink.
“The warm, gooey taste of apple crisp paired with a cup of coffee meld perfectly to unveil a cozy beverage customers have come to know and love at Starbucks each fall. The new Iced Apple Crisp Oatmilk Shaken Espresso features creamy oatmilk that perfectly complements the light roast flavors of Starbucks® Blonde Espresso,” said Starbucks beverage developer Billy Altieri.
I am a fan of the shaken espressos. There is just something about them that seems to be a really pleasant mixture of espresso, milk and syrup. And this Iced Apple Crisp version is no exception.
I was a bit surprised at how much I enjoyed this drink. I kept going back for more sips. It definitely has a prominent espresso taste, as the grande comes with three shots, and the venti with four, which is more than in a same-sized latte.
I didn’t specifically notice the taste of oat milk, but I did notice the apple flavor and it was a pleasant addition. It added a brightness and crispness to the drink that was welcome.
If you want it to be a bit sweeter, I suggest asking for it to be topped with the spiced apple drizzle.
It is going to be a flavor profile that is not enjoyed by some, but if you like apple flavor, apple pie, and such, this is a drink you must try.
And returning for the third year in a row is the Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato. It has a more unique flavor with the apple taste but is still very popular. And if you want to make this drink at home, hot or iced, check out my recipe!
Starbucks says it features “layered flavors of apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar combined with a spiced apple drizzle to create a delicious, fall flavored espresso beverage available hot, iced and blended.”
Seasonal food list
- Owl cake pop
- Pumpkin cream cheese muffin
- Pumpkin loaf (available year-round)
- Baked apple croissant (New!)
The new seasonal item is the Baked Apple Croissant. Starbucks says of it, “The new Baked Apple Croissant is made with layers of croissant dough wrapped around a warm apple filling, topped with sugar and baked to a golden finish.”
Grocery Store Products
If you want a taste of Starbucks deliciousness at home, don’t worry, these grocery options will have you set for fall.
The lineup includes pumpkin spice coffee creamers, the fall blend coffee beans, pumpkin spice cold brew, and more.
For those of you who are not a fan of fall flavors, grocery stores will still stock a variety of other items including the tasty, newly released ready-to-drink Pink Drink and Paradise Drink.
Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew Concentrate
This Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew Concentrate is a new product for this year. Starbucks says of it, “This super-smooth Starbucks Cold Brew is easy to make at home. The cold-steeped, custom blend of coffee features hints of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg flavor to craft this rich concentrate. Simply add water and enjoy. “
The ingredients are listed as “Arabica coffee with other natural flavors.” This is a concentrate, so it’s expected you will add water and ice to the beverage when making it. You can also sub your choice of milk for water, to create something similar to an iced café au lait. You can even heat it up!
Pumpkin Spice Flavored Coffee Roast & K-Cup pods
Returning this year is Starbucks pumpkin spice-flavored ground coffee. It’s available ground and in K-cup pods.
Starbucks says of it, “This fall coffee is Starbucks lightest roast and is bright with notes of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg. Add a splash of cream and a little sugar to awaken deliciously familiar flavors, reminiscent of Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte.”
Starbucks is also offering other fall options in grocery stores.
- Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Flavored Creamer
- Starbucks Salted Caramel Mocha Flavored Coffee Roast & K-Cup Pods
- Starbucks Fall Blend Coffee Roast & K-Cup Pods
- Starbucks Iced Espresso Pumpkin Spice Latte
- Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino Chilled Coffee Drink
